Bydgoszcz

Bydgoszcz Travel and Tourist Guide – Bydgoszcz is a place in mid northern Poland in the province of Kujawsko-Pomorskie. Bydgoszcz is described as a postwar industrial zone by one of the major tourists guides, I will not say which one. The same guide goes on to state that the local authority has spent time and money restoring the older parts of the city centre.

A city of about 365,000 inhabitants and the eight largest in Poland located in the province of Kujawsko-Pomorskie. It has been the co-capital with Toruń of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship since 1999, and was previously the capital of the Bydgoszcz Voivodeship from 1947 to 1998, and before that, of the Pomeranian Voivodeship from 1945 to 1947. Since 1999 it has also been the seat of Bydgoszcz County.

What Wikipeda says about Polish Cuisine

Polish cuisine (Polish: kuchnia polska) is a style of cooking and food preparation originating from Poland. It has evolved over the centuries due to historical circumstances. Polish national cuisine shares some similarities with other Central European and Eastern European traditions as well as French and Italian similarities. It is rich in meat, especially pork, chicken and beef (depending on the region) and winter vegetables (cabbage in the dish bigos), and spices.

It is also characteristic in its use of various kinds of noodles the most notable of which are kluski as well as cereals such as kasha (from the Polish word kasza). Generally speaking, Polish cuisine is hearty and uses a lot of cream and eggs. The traditional dishes are often demanding in preparation. Many Poles allow themselves a generous amount of time to serve and enjoy their festive meals, especially Christmas eve dinner (Wigilia) or Easter breakfast which could take a number of days to prepare in their entirety.

The Polish national dishes are bigos; pierogi; kielbasa; kotlet schabowy (type of breaded cutlet); gołąbki (type of cabbage roll); zrazy (type of roulade); roast (Polish: pieczeń); sour cucumber soup (Polish: zupa ogórkowa); mushroom soup, (Polish: zupa grzybowa) (quite different from the North American cream of mushroom); tomato soup (Polish: zupa pomidorowa); rosół (variety of meat broth); żurek (sour rye soup); flaki (variety of tripe soup); and barszcz among others.

There is an international airport called Bydgoszcz Airport located at the exit road to Inowrocław which is only 3km from Bydgoszcz city centre and is connected by regular public transport including a bus route number 80. The beginning of Bydgoszcz Aviation dates back to the first World War when it was founded by the German Aviation Authorities. It came into Polish hands in January 1920 and until the end of the 20’s it was used by the Polish army.

The main railway station is Bydgoszcz Główna and is one of the biggest railroad junctions in Polska, with two important lines crossing here, the east-west connection from Toruń to Pila and the north-south line from Inowrocław to Gdańsk. There are also less important lines from the city, to Szubin and Chełmża.
